About HostingGarage

Infrastructure intelligence for Indian website owners — diagnostic tools and hosting benchmark analysis built on measurable data, not marketing claims.

What HostingGarage is
A website infrastructure intelligence platform —
built to diagnose, analyze, and understand your website’s performance.
Recommendations are driven by data, not commissions.

HostingGarage provides free diagnostic tools for SSL, DNS, uptime, and server performance, alongside hosting benchmark data collected through independent testing — real paid accounts, identical test environments, and 90-day monitoring from Mumbai. Tools and data lead. Recommendations follow.

Why it exists

The problem it was built to solve

Website infrastructure problems — slow server response, DNS delays, SSL misconfigurations, hosting instability — are rarely visible until they have already caused damage. Most tools available to Indian website owners either test from the wrong location, or present hosting comparisons where affiliate commission determines the ranking order rather than measured performance.

HostingGarage was built to address both. Free diagnostic tools that run from Mumbai — the location that matters for Indian visitors. And a hosting benchmark built from real paid accounts monitored over 90 days, with rankings determined by uptime and TTFB data before any recommendation is made.

HostingGarage launched in 2016 as a hosting research and recommendation platform. It was later rebuilt with website infrastructure as its primary focus — diagnostic tools, uptime benchmarks, and measurable performance data before any recommendation.
What it produces

Three areas of infrastructure intelligence

🔍
Website Diagnostics
Immediate infrastructure visibility
  • SSL certificate validity and expiry
  • DNS record resolution from India
  • Live server status from Mumbai
  • Server response time (TTFB)
  • Core Web Vitals via PageSpeed API
📊
Hosting Benchmark Analysis
90 days of real monitoring — not one-time tests
  • Uptime tracking from Mumbai BOM
  • TTFB measurement across 7 Indian hosts
  • Infrastructure stability over time
  • Real paid accounts — no sponsored data
🏗️
Hosting Intelligence
Benchmark-based — not opinion-based
  • India hosting report card
  • Infrastructure comparison by data
  • Rankings by measured performance only
  • Methodology documented publicly
Benchmark philosophy

Measurable signals over arbitrary scores

HostingGarage focuses on two infrastructure signals that hosting providers control directly and that users can verify independently — uptime consistency and server response time from Mumbai. These are not composite scores or weighted indexes. Uptime is the percentage of successful HTTP checks over 90 days. TTFB is the median response time across the same window. Both are objective, reproducible, and directly connected to what a visitor experiences.

📡
Uptime
Percentage of successful HTTP 200 responses over 90 days. Primary ranking signal.
TTFB Median
Median server response time across ~25,920 checks from Mumbai. Secondary ranking signal.
🗓️
90-Day Window
Captures day-night cycles, weekends, and infrastructure incidents a one-week test misses.
💳
Real Paid Accounts
₹14,000+ spent on real hosting plans at retail prices. No free trials. No sponsored accounts.
Methodology transparency

How benchmark data is collected

Hosting benchmark data is collected through independent testing environments using identical website configurations — same theme, same plugins, no CDN, no caching — deployed across each provider’s shared infrastructure. Monitoring runs from a single Mumbai probe over a 90-day window to ensure consistent, comparable conditions across all providers.

The full methodology — test setup, monitoring infrastructure, plan selection criteria, ranking formula, and known limitations — is documented publicly and updated when the testing approach changes.

India-focused testing

Why origin location matters

A server that responds in 180ms from a probe in San Francisco may respond in 420ms from Mumbai. Most global infrastructure tools test from the USA or Europe. The numbers they return do not reflect what Indian visitors experience. HostingGarage tests only from Mumbai — because that is where the audience is.

What HostingGarage is not

Being explicit about what HostingGarage does not do is as important as what it does.

Not a managed hosting provider or website service
HostingGarage diagnoses and benchmarks hosting infrastructure. It does not sell hosting, manage websites, or provide technical support for your server or application.
Not an SEO audit tool
Diagnostic results cover infrastructure signals — SSL, DNS, uptime, and server response time. They do not cover keyword rankings, backlinks, meta descriptions, or page content quality.
Not a continuous monitoring service
The free diagnostic tools perform a single check at the moment of the request. They are not a substitute for a dedicated uptime monitoring service. Results reflect one point in time.
Not a scoring system with editorial weights
Hosting rankings use two measured metrics — uptime percentage and TTFB median — over 90 days. There is no composite score, no editorial weighting, and no paid placement in the ranking order.

Affiliate relationships

Some pages on HostingGarage contain affiliate links to hosting providers. When you purchase through these links, HostingGarage may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence uptime measurements, TTFB observations, benchmark methodology, or ranking order. Rankings are determined entirely by monitored performance data. Better hosting decisions start with better infrastructure visibility.
