Understanding your result

What do the SSL checker results mean?

Every result from our SSL checker tells you three things: is the certificate valid, when does it expire, and is the chain correctly installed. Here is what each status means for your website.

Certificate Valid
Your SSL certificate is installed correctly and trusted by all major browsers. Indian visitors can connect to your site securely. Chrome shows the padlock icon. Google confirms the site as HTTPS-secured.

Action needed: Check your expiry date. If it is under 30 days, set a reminder now — especially if your host does not auto-renew.
No immediate action needed
⚠️
Expiring Soon
Your certificate is valid today but expires within 30 days. Let’s Encrypt certificates renew every 90 days automatically — but only if your hosting control panel has auto-renewal enabled.

What to do: Log into your hosting panel and confirm auto-renewal is active. If it is not, renew manually now. Do not wait until it expires.
Act within the next week
📍
Mumbai TLS Check
Every other SSL checker tests from a USA or European server. We check from our Mumbai server — the same location as your Indian visitors.

The TLS handshake time we show is how long it takes for your site’s security handshake to complete for someone in India. Under 300ms is excellent for Indian hosting.

Common SSL problems solved

Your SSL certificate isn’t working — here is why and how to fix it

These three problems account for over 90% of SSL issues reported by Indian website owners. Find your situation and follow the plain-English fix.

Most Common SSL Certificate Expired
What you see: Chrome shows a full-page red warning — “Your connection is not private.” Visitors cannot reach your site without clicking through a scary warning.

Why it happens: Let’s Encrypt certificates last 90 days. If your host does not auto-renew them, they expire silently. BigRock and some older shared hosting plans do not auto-renew.

How urgent is this? Extremely. Every minute your cert is expired, potential customers are leaving your site permanently.
Fix in 3 steps
1. Log into your hosting control panel
2. Find SSL/TLS → Install or Renew Let’s Encrypt
3. Select your domain and click Install. Done in 2 minutes.
Does your host auto-renew SSL? See our Hosting Report Card →
After Migration SSL Broke After Moving Hosting
What you see: Your SSL was working on your old host. You migrated your site. Now it shows “Not Secure” even though you have SSL enabled.

Why it happens: SSL certificates do not transfer between hosting providers. Your new host must issue a fresh certificate after your DNS points to them.

Common mistake: Waiting for the old certificate to transfer. It never will. You must install a new one from your new host’s control panel.
Fix in 3 steps
1. Confirm your DNS is fully propagated to the new host
2. Go to new host control panel → SSL → Install Free SSL
3. Wait 5 minutes. Check again with our SSL checker above.

WordPress SSL Installed But Site Still Shows Not Secure
What you see: The SSL checker says your certificate is valid — but Chrome still shows a warning icon or “Not Secure” on some pages.

Why it happens: Mixed content — some images, scripts, or CSS files on your page still load over HTTP instead of HTTPS. Even one insecure resource triggers the browser warning.

This is NOT an SSL problem — your certificate is fine. It is a content problem that is easy to fix.
Fix for WordPress sites
Install the Really Simple SSL plugin. It detects and converts all internal HTTP links to HTTPS automatically. Free, one-click, 2 minutes.

Which Indian hosting providers handle SSL automatically?

Frequently asked questions

SSL certificate questions answered for Indian websites

Every question is answered in plain English — no jargon, no technical assumptions.

Enter your domain name in the SSL checker tool at the top of this page and click “Check SSL.” The tool connects from our Mumbai server, retrieves your certificate from your web server, and verifies it against trusted certificate authorities. Results appear in under 5 seconds showing your certificate validity, expiry date, issuer, and chain status. No login or registration required.
Use the free SSL checker above — enter your domain and your certificate’s exact expiry date appears in the result along with a countdown of days remaining. You can also check it directly in Chrome by clicking the padlock icon in the address bar, then “Certificate is valid.” For ongoing monitoring, enter your email in the reminder box that appears after you check — we will alert you 30 days before your SSL certificate expires so you never deal with a surprise expiry again.
When your SSL certificate expires, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari immediately display a full-page “Your connection is not private” warning to every visitor. Your website does not go offline but becomes effectively unusable — research shows that over 85% of users leave immediately when they see this warning and do not return. For an eCommerce store or service business, every minute with an expired certificate means lost customers and lost revenue. Renew immediately from your hosting control panel. If your host doesn’t make this easy, it may be time to switch to a host that auto-renews certificates.
SSL certificates do not transfer between hosting providers — this is the most common SSL problem after migration. After migrating, your new host must issue a fresh certificate for your domain. To fix it: first confirm your DNS has fully propagated to the new host (this can take up to 24–48 hours). Then log into your new host’s control panel, find the SSL or Security section, and install a free Let’s Encrypt certificate for your domain. On Hostinger’s hPanel this takes under 2 minutes. On Cloudways, SSL is automatically provisioned within minutes of adding your domain. If the problem persists after 48 hours, check our SSL checker above — it will tell you exactly what is wrong.
Based on our independent testing with real paid accounts: Cloudways, Kinsta, and Hostinger all auto-renew Let’s Encrypt certificates automatically with no manual action required. BigRock does not auto-renew on all shared hosting plans — this is the most common reason Indian website owners experience repeated SSL expiry problems. HostArmada and MilesWeb auto-renew on most plans. For a full comparison of SSL handling, uptime, and TTFB across 7 Mumbai-based hosts, see our India Hosting Report Card.
If the SSL certificate is valid but your browser still shows “Not Secure,” the cause is almost always mixed content — some resources on your page (images, scripts, or CSS files) are still loading over HTTP instead of HTTPS. Even one insecure resource triggers the browser warning. For WordPress sites, install the free Really Simple SSL plugin which detects and converts all HTTP links automatically. For non-WordPress sites, search your source code for any URLs beginning with “http://” and change them to “https://.” The SSL certificate itself is not the problem.
Yes. Google confirmed HTTPS as a ranking signal in 2014 and has strengthened this signal consistently. An active, valid SSL certificate is now a baseline requirement for ranking well in Indian Google search results. However, simply having SSL is not enough — the TLS handshake time also contributes to Core Web Vitals through TTFB (Time to First Byte). A Mumbai-based host delivering 200–300ms TTFB scores significantly better than a Singapore or USA host delivering 500–900ms. Our SSL checker shows you the Mumbai TLS timing — if this is high, the fix is usually switching to a closer datacenter, not changing your SSL certificate.
Yes, completely free — no login, no registration, no hidden costs. You can check unlimited domains. The expiry reminder feature is also free. HostingGarage earns revenue through affiliate commissions when you purchase hosting plans via our links — we disclose this upfront on every page. Our SSL checker tool itself will always remain free.
